Bar Kochba Revolt  
silver coin from the Bar Kochba, enlarged replica The Jewish yearning for independence continued even after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE; but the Bar Kochba Revolt (132-135 CE), like its predecessor, was another failed attempt to restore Jewish sovereignty in Jerusalem. In their cave refuges in the hills and desert of Judea, the rebels minted Roman coins with the facade of the old Temple and the name ''Jerusalem''.

Aelia Capitolina- A pagan city

Roman emperor Hadrian, replica Hadrian, one of the more enlightened Roman emperors (117-138 CE), turned Jerusalem into a Roman colony, called Aelia Capitolina. On the Temple Mount a temple to Jupiter was erected. All traces of Jewish life in Jerusalem were wiped out.

The Cardo of Roman Jerusalem

Cardo of Roman Jerusalem, Drawing The Cardo Maximus was the main thoroughfare of Aelia Capitolina, a typically Roman colonnaded street that led from the city's northern gate to the forum. Near the street was a temple dedicated to Venus.
