Eating in Jerusalem

Eating in Jerusalem - opened at the Tower of David Museum in May 1992.
The exhibition showed the history of Jerusalem through the tastes and smells, the kitchens and customs of the different peoples and their cultures as they came through Jerusalem over 3000 years.
Famous meals, baskets of food, spices and drinks that conquered the tongues and fed the stomachs Jerusalemites over the years were actualised at this special exhibition. Visitors were able to see typical delicacies, spices, mixtures and pickled foods along side rare archival photographs, certificates, personal testimonies whilst familiarising themselves with the culinary world of the city and gaining a peek into the kitchens of famous and interesting Jerusalem figures.
The exhibition included documents and testimonies, photographic material, movie clips and re-enactments of historical meals - such as the opening event of Augusta Victoria and the workings of a kitchen from a 19th century harem. Throughout the months of the exhibition, the public was invited to actively participate in a wide range of culinary activities as well as unusual feasts and meals.
