The name 'Rusalimum' appears on 4,000-year-old Egyptian clay figurines, alongside other contemporary cities of Canaan. It was customary to inscribe the figurines with the name of enemies and an appropriately dire curse. The figurine was then smashed in a magical ceremony in the belief that the power of the accursed enemy would thus be destroyed.
